Old Hay Bay Church

Comments:

For those interested - a new book - "The Founders, The Twenty-two Persons Who Established Old Hay Bay Church in 1792" (Ontario - Methodist - Loyalist) by Bill Lamb is now available. "Over two centuries later their work still stands and has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Here are the stories of these twenty-one men and one woman who banded together to build the first Methodist Church in Upper Canada. The Hay Bay Methodist Church is the oldest Methodist Building in Canada and the second oldest church in Ontario. Hay Bay Church was the first meeting house for Loyalists in Ontario." See link on South Fred. Heritage's Home Page to order.
Thanks Susan for making OHBC part of this website.

Comments:

Because of your work I was able to contact Sylvia Anderson and take her back through the Pollard's to the LDS Church records which are quite extensive now.
My website: http://www.gencircles.com/users/deborah2000 now contains tons of info. as a result of the wonderful work you have done here. Specifically the story about the 4 children who died in the little gravestone marked cemetery with the Young family.
I would love to know if you have any further such stories as this family definitely were pioneers of Adolphustown and would be willing to do the work or contribute my findings.
Keep up the "EXCELLENT" work.

Hoping to find burial or death records for Allen Corkindale. Allen died between 1881 and 1891.
Allen lived in Picton, Ontario with 1st wife Victoria Van Alstine, then second wife Lucretia Van Alstine. Allen was the father of Jessie Corkindale and Florence Lola Corkindale with first wife Victoria but the children were raised by Lucretia.
I had worked previously with Susan Wright. She had hoped to be doing some cemetary transcription this summer. Just wondering if she found anything?

Withers, Birrell, Lund, Jackson

Comments:

My father was Reginald Wallace Withers born Jan. 30,1921 to parents William Birrell Withers & Rena(Lund) Withers in Ernestown, Lennox & Addington Co.
His grandparents were Thomas William Withers & Fannie Edith Birrell on his father's side and Edward T. Lund and Elizabeth Jackson on his mother's side.
Lund and Jackson came from England in 1884
I'm trying to find the original 'Withers' and it may have been a Daniel Withers who came from England in 1879 as shown on the 1901 census. He had 2 sons George and Almond.
George was married to Mary E. ? as of the 1901 census and I'm trying to find a connection between George and Thomas William Withers (if there is one.

Which surnames are you researching?

FRYMOYER, FREEMYER, FRYMOUR, LOUCKS, FORESTER

Comments:

Last week I was surprised and shocked to find my family in the records of Rev. Robert McDowall's Register. I never dreamed they were ever in Canada.
David Wesley Freemyer Sr. and wife Catharine Loucks "Loux" are listed as parents of a daughter Elizabeth. I also found his son Davids birth and baptism record.
David Wesley Freemyer, Sr born 28 Feb 1761 Albany County, NY. Married Catherine Loucks.
Children:
1. Gertrud "Charity" Freemyer(Frymour on record) born 1793 in Montgomery County,New York, married (?not proven) Henry Bower Oct-Nov 1809 Fredricksburg. Maybe married 2. Peter Scott on 8 Aug 1821 Camden.
2. George A. Freemyer born 21 Feb 1794 married Martha Shreeves in Washington County Ohio. Moved to Jay County Indiana, then to Worth County, Missouri USA
3. Hannah Freemyer born 1796 married Samuel Bayard 31 July 1817, Washington County, Ohio.
4. Margaret Freemyer born 1797, married John Johnston in Washington County, Ohio.
5. Elizabeth Freemyer baptized 20 aug 1804, Fredericksburg or Camden, Lennox County,Ontario, Canada
6. David Wesley Freemyer Jr. baptized 22 Mar 1808, at Fredericksburg, lennox County, Ontario, married Dorothy Sill in Monroe County, Ohio. Moved to Colony, Knox County, Missouri. (My gg grandfather). Joined the Confederates in 1864, died in the war, problably at THE BATTLE OF JENKINS FERRY, Camden, Arkansas.
David Wesley Freemyer Sr. served in the Revolution, stationed at the Middle Fort, Schoharie Co, New York, lived at Cobleskill.
You have records also of the Forester Family--these were related to one of the older Freemyer generations. George Forster married Maria Catherine Freemyer. Their son Martines Forster married Anna Freemyer. Both George and Martines died in the Revolution, Battle of Cobleskill, when the Loyalist burned the town of Cobleskill---many of these families were either Freemyer's or related by marriage to Freemyers.

They might have been part of the United Empire Loyalist migration from these northern states that passed though the Hastings, Lennox & Addington Counties in Eastern Ontario before they eventually moved further west to Burford Tp., Brant Co. and Norfolk Co. in Western Ontario in about (1840-70).
Any help from any other related families, descendants, etc. or other interested researchers of the above mentioned individuals would be appreciated.

Which surnames are you researching?

Church, Brown

Comments:

I would like to trace Church and Brown and get the info I need to prove they were U.E.L. Oliver Church is my 5th great grandfather I have found him as well as his son Oliver Jr. on UEL lists. Oliver jr, Church is my 4th gr, grandfather. He and Rhoda had 14 children, one being my gr.gr.gr. grandmother, Margaret
Dianna Church. She married Nicholas Brown, Son of Jesse Brown.
How do I go about tracing Oliver Church and son Oliver Jr.
and Jesse Brown , to see if they were UEL? I would like to do this and join the Loyalist society. I read that if you can prove your ancestors were UEL you could use U.E. after your name. It lists: Oliver Church: Fredericksburg, Lieut., R.R.N.Y.. Stamped book P.L. 1786, page 155. Son Oliver Jr., volunteer, 400 acres , P.L. 1786.
Any help you can give in proving them UEL will be really appreciated. Thank You. Most Sincerely, Floella Putterill

I have just started the search of the Lloyd Family of Napanee Ontario. My dad was born there in 1908 and shortly after moved to Vancouver, B. C. with his family.
His dad was Frederick Lloyd the son of Amos Lloyd and Agnes Hough. Amos had a brother John Calab Lloyd. I am now back to George Henry Lloyd or Loyd who was born in New York in 1765. His father just listed the name as Lloyd so don't know his first name. He was born in New York about 1737. Thats as far as I have got. Would be interested in learning about the decendents of the families particularly in the Napanee area.

My 2nd great grandfather, John Boice (as our line spells the name) was married to Jane Herns (as our line spells it)& 3 chi. came into Kirtland Ohio winter 1837/38 as LDS (Mormon) converts. Also siblings: Peter, Josiah, Cornelia Gibbs Moore (w/o Henry), Margaret Richmond (w/o Thomas), Elizabeth Spafford Nicholson(widow of Moses and wife of Donald Nicholson Sr) and Rachel Barrett (w/o Jesse), and 1/2 sister Eleanor Shuman Barrett (w/o John) went to Will County, Illinois by 1850 census time, but probably earlier. These families were from L&A County as well as Frontenac.
There was a large contingent of Mormon converts who emigrated to Kirtland Ohio and after 1839 to Nauvoo, Illinois--I would like to hear from anyone who had family members converting or otherwise emigrating to these areas from Upper Canada and/or concerning these above family members.
